The Clif Thompson Senior Curling League is named in honour of Clif Thompson, a fine gentleman and an enthusiastic promoter of curling.

In 1980 Clif initiated a senior curling league in Stroud. The league commenced with 14 curlers and now has almost 100 members. Clif promoted all the aspects of curling, the skills, the rules, and the etiquette as well as the camaraderie. He initiated and held curling clinics to assist curlers of all levels become more confident in their abilities.

Clif Thompson CrestClif was born on August 8th, 1913 and has been curling since the age of 15 with a very impressive background. After being president of the Kapuskasing Curling Club he became president of the Temiscaming and Northern Curling Association. Clif served as chairman of the Pepsi-Cola National School Boy Curling and then went on to become President of the Canadian Curling Association and later President of the World Curling Federation. Clif chaired committees to obtain Labatt Breweries, as a sponsor for the Brier and to get curling into the Olympics. It is no wonder that Clif was inducted as a member of The Curling Hall of Fame.

It is indeed an honour to have the Stroud Senior Curling League named after Clif.
